FAQ

How do I start a focus session?

From the Home screen, tap Focus Now, choose a mode, choose how many breaks you want, and hold the start button for 3 seconds.

If your device supports NFC and your NuFocus card is registered, you can also start a session by scanning your card.

If you do not see a mode to start, create one first in the Modes section.

How do breaks work during a focus session?

Before starting, you can choose one of the break presets:

  • Deep Focus: 0 breaks
  • Tough: 1 break
  • Balanced: 2 breaks
  • Relaxed: 3 breaks

During a session, NuFocus can offer a 5-minute break, and a longer 15-minute break from the extended session controls flow.

How do I end a focus session?

NuFocus is designed to end sessions with your registered card. Open the session controls from Home and scan your NuFocus card to end the session.

On some devices or builds, a manual end option may also be available.

If card actions are unavailable, register your card in Settings and try again.

How do I create or change a schedule?

Open the Schedules tab and tap the + button to create a new schedule. Each schedule lets you choose:

  • A title
  • A focus mode
  • Start and end times
  • Days of the week
  • Breaks allowed

Schedules must be at least 15 minutes long before they can be saved.

Why can't I create more schedules?

Without a registered NuFocus card, the app only allows up to 2 schedules.

To create more than 2 schedules, register your card in Settings first.

Why can't I edit a schedule right now?

An active schedule cannot be edited while it is currently running.

End the running session from the Home screen first, then return to Schedules and try again.

Why are my restrictions not turning on?

First, make sure NuFocus has the permissions it needs:

  • On iPhone: Screen Time access must be approved
  • On Android: Accessibility, Usage Access, and VPN permissions must all be enabled

Then check that the selected mode is configured correctly:

  • In a blocking mode, the apps you selected should be blocked during focus
  • In an allowing mode, only the apps you selected should stay available
  • If you use Advanced Blocking, make sure those website and category settings were saved for that mode

Why is a website still accessible during focus?

App selection alone may not cover every website.

For websites, open the mode's Advanced Blocking settings and add the exact domain you want to block, or enable the built-in website/category restrictions such as Adult Content or Social Media.

What should I do if restrictions will not turn off?

If a focus session is still active, end it from the Home screen.

If your setup uses card-based ending, scan your registered card. If you have urgent access needs, check Settings for emergency exit options available on your account and device. otherwise please contact the customer support via email.
